Hey guys, here's what I've been working on lately. It's suppose to represent my 1991 Mustang LX Trunk. I started with a Revell 1990 Mustang LX coupe kit, but I wasn't happy with the roof. It's about two inches too short. I saw a guy named Mike Schnur do a re-build of his model on another "Scale Auto" forum. He has a 1:1 LX that he was wanting to duplicate. He did a terrific job. Not only did he correct the roof, he also corrected the rear wheel wells, the little "duck tail" on the trunk lid and tucked the rear bumper in. He did such a good job, everybody was bugging him, wanting a copy. A friend of his, Greg Wann, from Arizona, cast the bodies and sold me a couple.
The resin body and the Revell kit went together like a hand in a glove. I changed a few things, like the wheels and brakes from a Revell Saleen Speedster kit, seats from the 1:24 Revell 1993 Mustang Cobra kit. (Which fit really nice) I modified the engine compartment a little and added the Manifold, heads and headers from the '93 Cobra kit. I added the strut tower brace from a late model Mustang kit and added an aluminum radiator from my parts box. I put together an exhaust system from parts box parts. I made upper and lower control arms for the rear axle from scratch. Added sub frame connectors made from scrap styrene. I cut the middle out of the resin hood and added the middle, but slightly bigger, part of the plastic kit hood to make a scale 2" cowl induction hood. Everything that came with the resin body is shown in the last picture. All the parts are nicely cast, nice and crisp detail, smooth finish.
If you would like to see Mike Schnur's build, (It's awesome) check it out here: www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76262&page=1
